art of war logoIn the 'Art of War', General Sun Tzu recommended a strategic method to win that rarely required actual war.
The literally unbeatable samurai, Miyamoto Musashi, wrote the 'Book of Five Rings', a classic book about his strategy that is still used by executives and martial artists. This site is about these books.

About this site

The web site introduces the Sun Tzu's Art of War and Musashi's Book of Five Rings.  I have written some software to help implement its ideas and translated some sections of the texts.  My commentaries are aimed at people that want to implement the ideas but have only a casual interest in ancient Chinese language and culture.  My perspective is based on my martial arts and management experience as well as my time living in Japan and Taiwan.

I hope this site will help companies and people achieve their goals more quickly and efficiently without the need of arguments or destructive conflict.  If you can do this, you have truly mastered Sun Tzu's technique.

If you want to cite this site, please include Robert Friedler and www.artofwar.net in there somewhere.  If you want to use my software or photos on another website or reproduce them, contact me first at This email address is being protected from spambots.
